What is Ad targeting? Definition and explanations

Ad targeting is choosing who will see an advert, based on keywords, audience, behaviour, context or geography. It determines a campaign's performance as much as the creative does. Its framework has tightened: consent is required and third-party signals are receding, which gives renewed weight to contextual targeting and first-party data.

In one sentence

Ad targeting chooses who will see an advert, on audience or contextual criteria.
