n8n security update: check your version and execution logs
Daillac research
n8n — Security update, October 14, 2026D

n8n published a security bulletin on October 14, 2026. If your team operates its own instance, check the installed branch and the patch status before adding more business connections. Check the credentials used to connect your CRM, storage or databases.
What the October 14 bulletin says
The official bulletin identifies fixes in v1.123.85, stable v2.43.5 and beta v2.44.1. These are the patched versions listed on that date, not a claim that they remain the latest releases. n8n says its Cloud instances are patched automatically. Self-hosted administrators are asked to update affected versions.
One advisory concerns secrets saved in execution error data by certain Git, MongoDB Atlas Vector Store and Google Cloud Storage operations. A person permitted to view those executions could recover a secret without being allowed to read the credential itself.
Two access reviews to make separately
Ask who can edit a workflow, then ask who can read its execution history. The answers may differ. A support colleague may need to see that a request failed without needing the complete payload or every connected account’s diagnostic details.

| Question | Action to document | |
|---|---|---|
| Installed branch | Which exact version is deployed, and who maintains it? | Compare with the bulletin and the current release notes for that branch. |
| Execution visibility | Who can view inputs, outputs and errors? | Limit access to people who need the data for their role. |
| Connected credentials | Which systems could an affected workflow reach? | Prepare an inventory and assess possible exposure with the security owner. |
| Business continuity | Which scheduled runs and incoming webhooks must survive the change? | Agree the maintenance window and recovery procedure. |
Prepare a patch without losing the operational context
The n8n update guide recommends checking breaking changes and testing updates. Use the instructions for your actual deployment method. A branch label such as beta is not an invitation to switch a production system to a different release channel just to obtain a higher version number.
- Record the running version and the target release before the change.
- Confirm that a usable backup and the relevant configuration are available through your existing recovery process.
- Exercise a small set of synthetic requests in a controlled environment.
- After updating, verify webhook receipt, scheduled executions, credential use and the path for a failed request.
For a fictitious service company, the useful check is whether one enquiry still produces one CRM task and whether a failed connection remains visible to the assigned employee. A successful container restart does not answer either question. The test should include a repeated enquiry so recovery does not create an extra task.
If sensitive information may have been exposed
A patch prevents the corrected behaviour from continuing. Have the security owner review past access and decide whether affected credentials need rotation. The bulletin alone does not show that your instance was accessed or that a particular secret was taken.
Keep the maintenance record with the workflow
Save the before-and-after versions, the maintenance time, the checks performed and the person responsible for follow-up. If a workflow changes behaviour, this record helps separate a patch-related regression from an unrelated API change.
Our guide to building a first n8n workflow covers the business path and human review. Maintenance needs its own owner as that pilot becomes an ongoing business automation. Confirm who receives an alert when the next execution fails and who can restore service.

Questions fréquentes
Do Cloud customers need to run this update themselves?+
The October 14 bulletin says n8n Cloud is patched automatically. Use your provider’s current status and guidance if you observe a problem.
Should a stable deployment move to beta?+
Choose the appropriate corrected release for the deployment’s supported branch. The bulletin lists separate patched versions; they are not interchangeable upgrade instructions.
Does this prove our credentials were stolen?+
No. Exposure depends on the relevant operations, stored errors and access to executions. Review the actual instance and its access history.
What should the business team verify?+
Check that enquiries reach the right destination once, failures are visible and the assigned team can resume processing after maintenance.
Review the workflow’s maintenance plan
Bring the installed version, hosting arrangement and list of business connections. We can help scope the patch and the checks that follow.
