Disaster recovery is the plan that restores systems after a major event: fire, ransomware, loss of a data centre. It is defined by two numeric targets, RPO (how much data you accept to lose) and RTO (how long before service returns), then by the means that make them achievable. A plan that has never been tested is only an intention.
