Foundry Browser Automation reaches GA; sensitive trace protection remains in preview

Microsoft Foundry: Browser Automation general availabilityD

Microsoft announced general availability of Browser Automation in Foundry on October 19, 2026. One qualification needs to accompany the announcement: protection of sensitive content in traces remains in preview. The tool’s GA status therefore does not establish the same release stage for that protection.
The announcement also distinguishes the Playwright workspace, which must be planned separately. For a project team, these are dependencies to verify before the pilot. They help establish the actual integration scope instead of relying entirely on a general availability label when scheduling work or selecting the first business process.
Choose a workflow with controlled consequences
A smaller business may consider browser automation for work that still passes through application screens. The first workflow should have a clear endpoint and fictional information. In an illustrative example, an agent could look up an order status in a demonstration portal and prepare a summary for an employee.
Before connecting that workflow to CRM and ERP automation, decide which information may enter the business record. An ambiguous status or unavailable page should result in a request for verification. No Browser Automation product test or measured time saving is claimed here.
Next, examine exceptions such as an expired session, changed screen or error message. Define the expected response before running the workflow. A sensitive operation, such as confirming an order, needs its own authorization rule in addition to the technical ability to navigate the application and interact with its controls.
Review what the workflow leaves in its traces
The protection feature’s preview status calls for an explicit decision. Identify information that could appear in traces and the people who may view it. Define retention, access and information excluded from the pilot. Evaluate that behaviour before introducing real customer records into the proposed workflow.
For a custom web application, document how an employee can resume interrupted work. Staff need to establish whether an operation was applied before attempting it again. Compare what the agent reports with the application’s actual state, especially when the first response was uncertain or unavailable.
A custom CRM or ERP project also provides an opportunity to assess the integration path itself. Compare screen automation with available interfaces and the provider’s constraints. A limited pilot, including trace review and interrupted operations, can supply the evidence needed to choose the next step and define the support work that would accompany it.
