Google Cloud presented Gemini agent on October 8, 2026, during Gemini at Work. The announcement describes a work agent connected to the company's context and systems. Before giving it access to business tools, an SME must specify the accessible data, authorized actions, and decisions that still require approval.

What the announcement contains

In its official presentation, Google describes an agent capable of planning work, using tools, and intervening in environments already used by teams. The provider also announces cost, administration, and governance controls. These functions must be examined in the offer and configuration proposed to your company.
The announcement text is not enough to establish the availability of each function in your contract, nor the location where your data is processed. Request the documentation of the selected offer, the applicable conditions, and the regions used by the connected services. A company in Quebec must verify this process against its own data management requirements.

Start with a task and a limited account

Let's take a fictional example of preparing a sales follow-up. The agent reads a CRM file and a service policy to draft an email. The employee checks the information and decides whether to send it. The pilot requires access to the relevant file and the useful document; reading the entire sales database is not necessary for this request.
Map the path of this task and indicate, at each step, the account used and the data returned. If a connector uses a shared technical account, verify how it respects the rights of the employee originating the request. The agent must not be able to read a file to which this employee does not have access.
The MCP vs API to connect an agent to the CRM guide explains where to place these controls. Connection mechanisms and business permissions should be considered together.

Prepare a test that exposes the limits

Add to the pilot an inaccessible file, an ambiguous request, and an unavailable tool. Also, have a modification proposal rejected. Check the result in the business systems after each test. A message indicating that the agent followed the instruction must correspond to the operations actually performed.
For the budget, set the consumption thresholds and the person who receives the alerts. Check the behavior when the threshold is reached: suspension, request for approval, or limitation of certain actions. The control must be understandable by the team that will operate the pilot.
