What is Design system? Definition and explanations

A design system is the shared reference that defines a product's appearance and behaviour: style tokens (colour, typography, spacing), reusable components, usage rules and accessibility principles. It lives as code as much as in mockups. Its value is not aesthetic but economic: it removes redundant decisions and makes screens consistent by default.
