What is User-centered design? Definition and explanations

User-centered design is an approach that bases every product decision on the real needs, constraints and behaviours of the people who will use it. It proceeds in cycles: understand the context, define requirements, produce solutions, evaluate them with users, repeat. ISO 9241-210 formalises the principle. Asking users for their opinion after delivery does not qualify.
